There are many, who will readily agree that Google Analytics is the best application for quick and detailed web traffic analysis because it is really detailed and up-to-date as well. But few people actually know how to use the advanced Google Analytics to the fullest. So, below are some basic tricks and tips to get the best out of Google Analytics. Analyzing Segments The first segment in Google Analytics is the social media segment. This segment deals with analyzing the traffic for your social media campaigns. Most website owners will have to pay for their social media campaigns. If they succeed, there would be greater sales for their products and services. So, to see the real value of the social media campaigns, you need to activate a social media segment. This can be done in the below steps: 1. Click on My Site and then on the Advanced Segments Icon. 2. Click on Add Custom Segment. You can create and name a new analysis segment. 3. Click on Test Segment to see if the segment works. 4. You can now list the various channels of social media to get updates on the most valuable channels of social communication. You can also use the Google Analytics to develop another segment. This is the Long Tail Keyword segment. You will have to follow the steps given below. • Click on Add a Dimension. Type Keyword as a dimension • Click on Include to make the dimension a matching regular reference. • Then, type in this code- ^s*[^s]+(s+[^s]+){2}s*$ With this segment, you will be able to trace the requests for the important keywords. You will also know which requests get you the most traffic for your website. Non-Branded Keyword Segment There are two types of keyword requests. One is that of branded words, which carry the name of your company. The others are the product names or non-branded keywords and tags. To trace the non-branded keywords, follow the following steps: 1. Click on Add a Dimension. Type Keyword as a dimension. 2. Click on Include to make a matching regular reference. 3. Instead of any code, type in your company name in a coded manner. 4. For example, if the company is known as William Roberts, the code will be:- (William/Roberts/Wilhelm/Roberts/Roberts..) If you type in this code, your company or branded keyword queries will be tracked perfectly. This technique will also help you to differentiate between normal keywords and tags.
